Soccermaths

To practise any sport you need to be fit.  Sport is all about understanding the game, skills and techniques.  All good sport stars are extremely dedicated and practise every single day.  If they stop practising, even for a short while, they will loose their fitness and skills and their performance will decline.

Mathematics is just like a sport. It has all to do with understanding, skills and techniques. You need to practise every day to become mentally fit.  If you stop practising, you will loose you fitness and your performance will decline.

This is only one of the challenges our learners are facing in 2010 with the longer than usual June/July school holidays.

To help our learners to stay mentally fit, SATeacher has developed a CD-based “training programme” called: Soccermaths.

Soccermaths:

Just like the name suggests – the central theme of this mathematics programme is soccer and the activities focus on the soccer world cup.

The programme….

  • Is based on the South African mathematics curriculum and covers Grade R to 7.

  • Each grade consists out of fun activities covering all the learning outcomes.

  • After each activity the learner can do an interactive quiz to assess their understanding.

  • Results of the quiz can be printed to identify developmental need. (It could even be taken to school after the holidays to show the teacher.)

  • Each activity is also supported with a note for the “coach” (parent/teacher), a memorandum and printable resources.

  • Over and above these activities there is also a “Warm-up” section with mental maths quiz activities.

  • The results of the mental maths quiz can be submitted (online) to automatically enter into a competition with great prizes.

    • Learners - First prize (based on accuracy and speed) is a desktop computer.

    • School - Best performing learners (on average) – LCD television.

  • The “Take a break” section is loaded with fun interactive games that develop the brain and hand-eye
    co-ordination.

  • The coach (parent/teacher) also has access to an email based help line.

Partner opportunity for schools:

We would like to offer schools the opportunity to “partner” with SATeacher by offering this programme to your learners.

The programme (per household - including all grades, R to 7) only costs R150 and 30% of the Soccermaths purchase will be donated to the school to invest in education needs.

Soccermaths school co-ordinator:

We realise that this initiative will consume extra time and effort from a teacher or staff member, who will act as “Soccermaths co-ordinator” for the school and therefore we have decided to also reward the co-ordinator with R5 per programme sold.

Benefits:

So besides helping your learners to

  • improve their mathematics over the June/July holidays and

  • to become and stay mentally fit

  • in a fun way, your school can also

  • generate some extra income.

Fund raising potential:

Let’s assume only 100 households enrol into the Soccermaths programme.
The school will earn R4 500 and the Soccermaths co-ordinator will earn R500.
