Foundation for Learning update

The Foundation for Learning campaign was launched in 2008 with the sole objective to improve the literacy and numeracy levels in South Africa from about 34% to 50% by the year 2011. The Department of Basic Education published the Foundation for Learning documents containing milestones and assessment tasks as guideline for schools.

On the eve of 2011, we are nowhere near this target and the minister announced that the target will be changed to 60% by the year 2014.

 As a further resource and guideline, the Department of Basic Education has now also issued schools with Foundation for Learning “lesson plans”.

SATeacher is proud to announce the launch of the Foundation for Learning Resource Pack on the 16^th August 2010.

1. All the official Foundation for Learning documents, including
   1. Milestones
   2. Assessment Tasks
   3. Assessment Rubrics
   4. Lesson plans
2. Calendar linking the lesson plan activities to specific weeks.
3. Works schedules in line with the lesson plans, linking each activity with assessment standards and milestones.
4. More than 4500 printable activity sheets covering each activity on the lesson plan, where applicable.

 The F4L Resource Pack comes in four volumes (parts):

1. Foundation Phase Literacy covering Grade 1 to 3 English Home Language and English First Additional Language.
2. Foundation Phase Numeracy covering Grade 1 to 3 Mathematics.
3. Intermediate Phase Languages covering Grade 4 to 6 English Home Language and English First Additional Language.
4. Intermediate Phase Mathematics covering Grade 4 to 6 Mathematics.

Each volume (part) costs R750 and the complete set (Volume 1 to 4) - R2500.

On request of our members we have decided to make the resource pack for Term 3 available with immediate effect.

Schools ordering before the launch date of 16^th August 2010 will receive the Resource Pack for the third term immediately and will be updated with the rest of the Foundation for Learning Resource Pack, including the 2011 calendar links, on the 16^th August 2010.
